Wednesday, August 27, 7:009:00 p.m., RSVP required Survivorship For many of us, completing treatment is just the beginning. Now we need to learn how to navigate the uncharted waters of survivorship. Rich Boyajian, a Nurse Practitioner with the Lance Armstrong Foundation Adult Survivorship Clinic at Dana-Farber, will raise many issues you might not have considered as you enter this stage of your recovery, including: survivorship 101 (basic facts on why it is important on a national level), late effects (what to look for based on the treatment received), and the importance of a treatment summary and care plan. RSVPs are required. There is no fee to attend. Please RSVP to info@wellnesscommunity.org or 617-332-1919.
Keeping AbreastWhat?! Me?! Breast cancer?! Most of us never thought it could happen to us. We are young, healthy, work out regularly, and eat right. But unfortunately, young women like us sometimes do get breast cancer. Want to share your story? Thrive is looking for performers for our signature outreach program, Keeping Abreast. Keeping Abreast is a presentation to share what it's like to be a young woman with breast cancer, performed by women who know first hand-YOUNG SURVIVORS. The presentation discusses the many aspects of breast cancer from diagnosis to treatments, from tears and fears to laughter and celebrations. It consists of a staged, informal "conversation" by and about young women and their experiences with breast cancer. The presentation typically features three of our local members engaged in a dialogue about their unique and sometimes very challenging fight against cancer. The presentation is funny, thought provoking, and informative. If you are interested in being a part of this program, please contact Marci Blacker at marci@thrivetogether.org. Breast cancer community eventsThrivers interested in rowing? Open waters? Wind on your face? Dragon Boat Team at The Wellness Community: The Dragon Boat team at The Wellness Community will be starting up again in the spring and they are looking for some new faces to join their team. This has been an inspirational program in past years where women not only learn to paddle the Dragon Boats, but also form friendships that last long after the rowing stops. The team will row on the Charles River in the evening time. What a magnificent place to be on a Boston spring evening! Please take advantage of this amazing program for survivors by calling Harriet Berman at The Wellness Community at 617-332-1919 or contact her directly at harriet@wellnesscommunity.org. You wont regret it! See you on the waters... |
